WILD splendid life is a lifestyle journal.
Through personal memory and reflection, it honors the ways in which everyday life is enriched by and reminiscent of the natural world–its “magic things” and grand diversions, its distant corners and discoveries close at hand. Outdoor adventure features prominently here, rounded out by the comforts of home, good food, and the occasional stroll through the city. Colorado, as well as destinations around the globe, provide the setting. Like life, publication frequency ebbs and flows.
I’m Misha, the creator, writer, and photographer of WILD splendid life.
I believe that everyone can fit the outdoors into their life. I created WILD splendid life as a personal challenge to incorporate the beauty, wonder, and contemplativeness of the outdoors into my own life–my full, varied, real life. While my dream of going off the grid and exploring the world from the back of a camper is impractical for now, nothing stops me from trying to bring elements of the outdoors–subtle and otherwise–into my daily life. And my trusty Subaru does a fine job of getting me away and into the outdoors on the weekends.
I was born between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains of western Virginia. A nomad at heart and forever an army brat, I’ve traveled the world and called eleven US states, Germany, and South Africa home. These days, my partner, Jabu, and I live in Denver where the mountains and prairie are our inspiration. We’re thinking that we may stick around here for a while, or at least set up basecamp.
I find happiness in simple things, like quiet hikes, photography, the first and last light of day, road trips with Jabu, summer fun with nieces and nephews, sun on my skin in deep winter, the smell of the ocean, sleeping on crisp sheets in faraway places, reading and writing, indie films, new recipes, and sporadic and undisciplined attempts to learn French and isiZulu.
